Pets - cats and dogs - have lived with us for many hundreds of years. They helped a person to hunt and protect the house, guarded or simply brought joy to huts and palaces. Historically, hundreds of cats have always lived in the Winter Palace, which guarded the chambers from mice and guarded food supplies in the basements from them. In gratitude for this, the Hermitage has always kept works of art on the "cat" theme - sculptures, paintings, snuff boxes, dishes.
