General note: Artist BookGeneral note: From the Prince's Islands (Istanbul) - where he was born to Greek parents - to Athens, Xchristakos carries with him all the richness of these two intimately interwoven cultures that have become his sources of inspiration, his artistic landmarks that his characters express. With a cosmopolitan personality, open to the world, he is nevertheless stifled by the clashes that agitate the two communities. His cultural assets and this experience shape his artistic work. His "sculpture-paintings" often feature caged characters, characters trying to escape ... But what are they expressing? Multitude or Solitude? Uniformity or Singularity? Shadow or Light? Stillness or Movement? Self-taught, Xchristakos lets his fellows challenge us by using different artistic expression techniques: a mixed technique, video art, installations, but also monumental art. The three-dimensional mixed technique (3D) that he uses is generally composed of canvas glued on sheet metal, painted in oil or acrylic and materials such as bronze, wood, aluminum ... His installations and his use of video art bring his characters to life, inviting us to look at our universe for ourselves. Before leaving Turkey he exhibited in 1973 and 1974 at the Istanbul City Cultural Center. Then having left the city of his early years, Istanbul, he made numerous stays in Europe, mainly in Paris and Brussels, where he participated in several group exhibitions. Now he has chosen to live and work in Athens. Xchristakos invites you to discover its “fellows” by visiting its various galleries: 3D mixed media, installations, video art, but also the urban arrangements that have been requested of it.
