Publisher: Antwerp Middelheim Museum General note: March 12 - April 24 2011General note: This publication is an initiative of Contemporary Art Heritage Flanders (CAHF) and published in response to the exhibition commissioned by the Middelheim Museum 'CROSSING. From Middelheim Museum to the City and Back Again', in LLS 387, March 2011. The Middelheim Museum – as one of the four museums in Flanders that manages a contemporary art collection – wants to use 'Crossing. From Middelheim Museum to the City and vice versa.' highlight its specificity, namely the interaction between the museum collection and the public space of the city of Antwerp. What results does this interaction lead to in practice? What possibilities does this research open up for the future? The project comprises a publication and an exhibition, both exploring the subject in different ways: in addition to a theoretical reflection by Jeroen Boomgaard, the publication includes fifteen proposals by visual artists that formulate an answer to the question: Which images would best leave the Middelheim Museum to move to the city and vice versa. A thinking exercise that, independent of any agenda, allows images to be given a new meaning.
