Publisher: Köln : n.b.k. publications , 2014ISBN: 9783863353216.Subject(s): Sanat, Sanatçı, EserlerDDC classification: 709.2 General note: n.b.k. Exhibitions Vol. 15 Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König
Contents:
For more than ten years, Valérie Favre has dealt with suicide as a subject in painting. As a result she has created more than one hundred small-format paintings, less illustrating death rather than exploring it visually as a social taboo. Favre draws on famous as well as fictional deaths of the past and present. With her paintings, abstaining from striking red, she creates a space of border crossing between life and death. For the first time, the series Selbstmord (2003-2013, oil on canvas, each 24 × 18 cm) is reproduced in its entirety in this publication, complemented with an extensive essay by Elizabeth Bronfen, internationally renowned cultural scientist of feminist studies.
