Bölgenin sanatsal üretiminde sıklıkla yer alan biçimlere, malzemelere, kavramsal yöntemlere ve estetik kodlara yer veren sergi, aynı zamanda bölgenin güncel kültürüne ve Güneydoğu Asya toplumlarında ayrışmalara neden olan gerilimlere dair eleştirel bir bakış öneriyordu. Sergi özellikle bölgenin çağdaş sanat üretiminde merkezi önem taşıyan "birey" ve "toplum" kavramlarına ilişkin çoklu bakış açılarını tartışmaya açmayı amaçlıyordu. Böylelikle, bölgenin sanatında 1970'li yıllardan bu yana gelişen sanatçının çoklu perspektifleri aynı anda benimseyebilmesine yönelik kendine özgü bir dünyaya bakış biçiminin altını çizdi.
Sergide, bir bölümü bu sergi için özel olarak üretilmiş olan yerleştirmeler, videolar, ses işleri, fotoğraflar ve performanslar yer aldı. Göçebe Bakış aynı zamanda, Güneydoğu Asya'nın çağdaş sanat üretiminde önemli bir yeri olan etkileşime ve katılıma açık yapıtları izleyicilerin deneyimine açtı.General note:
The Roving Eye: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia was a group exhibition that presented more than 40 works by 36 of Southeast Asia's most innovative contemporary artists from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia. The exhibition was curated by Iola Lenzi, a researcher and critic focusing on Southeast Asian contemporary art.
As well as introducing forms, materials, conceptual methodologies, and aesthetic codes commonly featured in the artistic production of the region, the exhibition aimed to offer critical insights into today's regional culture and the many tensions cleaving the societies of Southeast Asia. In particular, The Roving Eye argued multiple points of view on self and society as a central canon of Southeast Asian contemporary art. The exhibition thus emphasized this particular way of looking at the world that has evolved in the region from the 1970s on whereby the artist usually engages multiple positions and viewpoints.
