Rainforest V (variation 3) : David Tudor ve composers inside electronics inc. / curated by Melih Fereli - İstanbul : Arter Publications , 2020.

The choreographer Merce Cunningham commissioned David Tudor in 1968 to create a music work Rainforest for his similarly titled dance. Rainforest V (variation 3) was developed by composers John Driscoll and Phil Edelstein of CIE (Composers Inside Electronics, Inc) into a self-performing sound installation building upon their past Rainforest IV collaboration with David Tudor. Rainforest V (variation 3) was acquired for the Arter Collection in 2018. Its presentation in Arter’s Karbon is the world premiere of the third variation.

In this interactive installation, 20 found and constructed objects such as large floats, plastic barrels, a copper tub, a plant pot, and a badminton racquet are suspended from the ceiling and resonate with signals sent from pre-recorded sound files, thus creating an evolving sound environment for audience exploration. An additional object, a gift of John Driscoll to Arter, is currently shown in Room 2 as part of the ongoing exhibition For Eyes That Listen.

Engaging in a close dialogue with each other, the exhibitions For Eyes That Listen and Rainforest V (variation 3) function through their conceptual relationship with music, sound and silence in a manner almost like a diptych work.
